Librarian in the Spotlight

Librarian in the Spotlight

Cathy Newland, Library Director, came to work for the Silver Lake Public Library in December 2010. She lives with husband JerryCathy and doggie pal Lucy. They all love small-town living and the sense of community they share with folks in Silver Lake.

“She is too fond of books, and it has addled her brain.” (Louisa May Alcott) This has been said of Cathy too. She does love to read and when asked about her favorite book, she usually says, “The one I am reading right now.”

Reading and books is not the only reason Cathy likes working in the Library. The Library is so much more and she is so pleased to be a part of the fine services offered.

Fall is her favorite time of the year. “And Thanksgiving – I am so thankful for the wonderful group of people I work with. I hope you have enjoyed seeing them in the Spotlight.”

Tracey says:  My faith plays a central role in my life. My husband and I have been married for 31 years and I am very thankful for the life adventures we share together. We have 3 children. Our daughter is married and gave us our first Granddaughter! She just turned one in July. Our sons have both graduated from high school and are in the process of moving into the next phase of their lives.

I love the Library because it is a free resource for everyone and I like being a part of that. I plan, create and implement programing for the youth in our community. I love the relationships I have developed with them and I am always looking for new and fun ways for the Library to meet their needs.
Working at the Library is not all glamour and excitement, but it is a wonderful special place that brings help to those who need it and fun to those who are looking for it. I am happy that I am a Librarian.
